African Female Warriors Of Dahomey

The black amazon of the Dahomey kingdom were a 3,000 strong regiment of heavily armed warriors. Dahomey occupied what is now present day Benin, on the West coast of Africa. They we’re called Amazons because of their similarity to the mythical Amazons of Anatolia (Ancient Turkey). The kingdom of Dahomey lasted about 300 years (from 1600 A.D. to1900 A.D.).  In this Black Archaeologist episode, we tried to capture what it must have felt like to be the enemy of the most fiercest warriors in all of African, The Female Warriors Of The Kingdom Of Dahomey.
