Queen Of The Congo.
Upon the death of her father, the king, African queen Llinga of the Congo empire located in Central Africa) and her legions of female warriors, lead a revolt in 1640, to end the Portuguese domination of their kingdom.
These warrior women were, as was their custom, trained in the use of weaponry such as axes, swords, bows and arrows, and also in the knowledge of battle strategy and tactics from the time they were little girls, not unlike the young Spartan boys of ancient Greece. So dedicated to the art of war were this ladies, that they even sheared off a portion of their breast , so as to better facilitate aiming their arrows. This, was the unyielding militaristic enthusiasm that finally made the war wearied Portuguese sue for peace.
The Queen Of The Congo, Llinga and her women warriors will be making an appearance in the new episode of the black web series, Black Archaeologist ‘Way Black In Time #5’.
